New Year - Hitting the ground running!

Firstly, a belated happy new year to you all. In doesn't seem two minutes ago that we were planning for Christmas parties & New Year's Eve and before you know it, we are now planning the weddings and parties that will be taking place in 2012.

The Garden Room has gone down a storm, with 28 weddings already booked for 2012. We are just confirming the last few Live Bands to entertain you from February right through until November on Friday nights and the Hog Roasters and BBQ are being prepared for the summer outdoor parties that have been booked.

We are delighted to say that 2011 saw our Hotel have it's busiest year since we took over Tricky's all those years ago and with the Garden Room now up and running we also held more Conferences and Meetings than ever before.

In terms of the Restaurant, we are constantly listening to our customers and introducing different dishes whilst ensuring that we continue to offer great value. We are currently promoting some fantastic lunchtime and evening offers so why not take a look at our menus, which you can download from our website.

Auction raises over £3,000 for Cancer Charities

Breast Cancer Awareness month was the backdrop to a Cancer Charities fund raising evening at Tricky's Bar & Restaurant, Redruth. This year's event focused on raising money for Breast Cancer Care and LARF Cornwall. Over £3,000 was raised during the evening which included a Hog Roast, Bush Tucker Trial and Auction which saw some healthy bidding for dozens of prizes donated from local businesses.

Commenting on the evening success, Tracy Michell, Director of Tricky's said "I am delighted that we have once again been able to raise money for such worthwhile organisations. The support and donations from so many local businesses has been amazing and we would not have been able to do all this if it wasn't for them". Tricky's next fund raising event is their annual Fireworks Display on Saturday 5th November with proceeds going to Cancer Research and LARF Cornwall.

Press Release: Local Businesses Make Special Day for Bride & Groom

Last November Tricky's Hotel in Redruth opened the doors to it's new function suite, The Garden Room. To celebrate the opening, a 'win a wedding' competition was held with local businesses supporting the event by contributing towards the overall prize package. This weekend, nearly a year on, prize winners, Jenna Hawkey and Andy Ferris celebrated their marriage at Tricky's.

After getting married at Crantock Church, the Garden Room was the setting for 114 guests during the day and 200 in the evening to enjoy a coastal themed reception with flower displays by Camborne Florists, G.R. & S.D Mills and a beautiful hand crafted wedding cake designed by the Candy House, Penryn. The toasting champagne and table wine was kindly supplied by Molson Coors.

It's only June! I hear you say, but already we are getting enquiries from quite a few forward thinking customers about Christmas. So John Crocker, our Head Chef has come up with a great festive menu and we are now taking bookings.

Although a few parties took place in the Garden Room last year, this year it is available from the outset and makes a stunning alternative Christmas Party venue to the main restaurant. As usual, Discos will be included in the price on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays.

Another successful event at Tricky's Hotel

Tricky's was delighted to host the Atlantic FM and NRS Media Impact Plus presentations last week. With their listener viewing numbers continuing to grow year on year, the popular cornish radio station joined up with NRS Media to outline the benefits of radio advertising to local businesses.

Three Rooms were used to hold the event including the Garden Room and the Conference Room.

The Big Breakfast

Wedding Launch Party

Stunning Garden Room Opens It's Doors

Wednesday evening saw the opening of our brand new Garden Room. After 13 weeks the doors opened for our wedding launch party. Guests arrived from around 7pm including those who had paid to enter the £8,000 wedding package competition.

The Garden Room has it's own Bar and Kitchen and is perfect for parties, functions, conferences as well as beautiful weddings. A very big thank you goes out to the local businesses who donated towards the prize, many of which had displays on show during the evening.

The Beauticians and Stylists from Tricky's Serenity Hair & Beauty were also on hand showing how you can look your very best on the Big Day.

After a few drinks and the buffet it was down to business, with the start of the quiz. 15 questions...but who would win? 4 couples shared the highest score was it was down to a tie-break.

And the winner is??? Congratulations to Jenna Hawkey and Andy Ferris !!!

Andy was unable to attend so Jenna was supported by Mum Judi. Jenna and Andy will celebrate their wedding at Tricky's in October next year.

It's nearly December!

Yes, the year has certainly flown by. We thought 2010 was going to be busy at Tricky's and we certainly were not wrong. We have been delayed in building the ICE CUBE, which we wanted to have up and running by now. Unfortunately the protracted planning process has now knocked that into 2011. But, instead we have put our attention to building the hotel extension.

The Garden Room has been designed to be a gorgeous venue room for weddings, parties, functions and conferences. It has it's own dedicated kitchen, bar, preparation areas and laundry room. It will open next week and will enable Tricky's to host even more events in the years ahead. If you are looking to host a large event, pop over and see the new room. It is lovely, even if we say it ourselves!

We celebrated Serenity Hair & Beauty's first birthday back in July. We are delighted with the way customers have embraced Serenity and thank you all for your ongoing support. Our charity firework display earlier this month certainly went with a bang. The place was so, so busy, and managed to raise over £1000 each for LARF and Cancer Research. Again, thank you for all your donations.

Another very popular event at Tricky's has been the live bands playing on Friday nights. Our last 'live music friday' is this week, with Boogaloo Dudes. We will kick off the live music again in February so keep an eye out for confirmed dates on the Tricky's Website.

We are fully booked for Christmas parties, which start on December 3rd and again thank all of you who have chosen Tricky's to celebrate the festive period.

So it has been a very busy, very eventful year. We appreciate the support of our customers and look forward to seeing you over the Christmas period and, of course, in 2011!

Ice Skating Rink in Plymouth to close

The Ice Cube at Tricky's Redruth had a brief mention on BBC Spotlight yesterday evening. In light of the closure of the Ice Skating Rink at the Pavilions in Plymouth it seems that unless the ICE CUBE is granted planning permission, the nearest ice skating rink in the southwest would be in Bristol.

The planning process is continuing so we can not say when works will commence but we believe that the closure of the rink in Plymouth re-inforces our belief that the ICE CUBE will be a great, and much needed, leisure facility or everybody in the area.

Originally called Tricky Dickies, Tricky's has been one of the most popular Pubs in Cornwall over the last 20 years with a lot of changes along the way.

The next few months will see even more exciting developments. So, we thought a blog would be an ideal way to keep all of our customers up to date with what's happening.

Firstly our new website is up and running www.trickyscornwall.co.uk so please take a look.

Our most exciting plan for the months ahead is that we are currently seeking planning permission for the ICE CUBE. This will be Cornwall's only permanent Ice Skating Rink. The state of the art rink will be 600 square metres in size and will be a unique family and attraction in Cornwall. Taking up to 200 skaters at any one time and open all year round, rain or shine, it is something we are looking forward to bringing to the town of Redruth and the County as a whole.

The development will also see Tricky's Hotel expanded. A purpose built Weddings & Function room is also being built. This will over look the gardens and cater for up to 150 guests. So, if you are planning to get married in Cornwall, find out what Tricky's can offer.
